Every Atlas – Peeled Back

Editors Note: One of our biggest fans, and past contributor Emily Corpuz, takes a look at QYP veterans Every Atlas during their early days.

By Emily Corpuz

Now it begins with the strumming of a guitar, followed by the picking of a bass and beat of a drum. Then, we hear a pair of voices unlike any heard in the show so far. Creative lyrics, epic sounds, and beautiful harmonies saturate every element of their music. Of course, I’m describing the band we’ve all come to know and love as Every Atlas. Continue reading

Clay, and sketches, and puppets, oh my!

By NadaHipster

Last summer  I was at a pool party, and as the afternoon turned into the evening, we (under the influence of pizza and light beer) began talking about things that scared the hell out of us when we were kids.

While there were standard ghost stories, tales of haunted schools, and mythical suburban legends; we noticed an unnerving trend among the subjects of our discourse (Look, fancy words!).  A lot of things that terrified us are from seventies pop culture.  I’m not event talking about the stuff people would flip out about after getting high. Creative Emissions: Back in the swing of things

By Bryan West

In 2009 my friend, Mr. Jon Jennings, decided to launch a record label and concert promotion organization. I say “organization” because there is very little money to be made in the local music scene. If you break even after a show, it’s a damn good night.

Starting a label or a band is a ton of work, and it must be done out of love; love for music, creativity, and, most importantly, the people. Quote Your Pulse has always felt to me like an organization of creative people who simply want to share their creations. Continue reading

Retro Review: The Velvet Underground and Nico

By Annie Alvira

The Velvet Underground & Nico is a misunderstood piece of art that shoves itself in the listener’s face, attempting to lock eyes in a passionate stare-down.  It dares the listener to embrace its abstract beauty, and finally leaves its victim confused and unnerved—and definitely intrigued to hear more. Growing up with the scene: A fan looks back

Editor’s Note: One of our biggest fans, Lolvia Yella, looks back at her local scene and how QYP influenced her musical tastes. Happy reading!

There are two things I’m into: shows and music. The two basic materials someone needs to survive, besides food, water, oxygen, and shelter. But for me, it’s a radical experience

It started when I was in the 8th grade, when the hardcore scene was a huge thing in Los Banos. I mean HUGE! Everyone and anyone who was looking for a wild, yet potent style would be downtown at Hot Dog Heaven, (one of the only places to see a show) standing outside in a long line, waiting to get inside to show off their moves. It was sort of like a disco-tech for the modern age. Continue reading

"I want to eat an entire pepperoni pizza"

The world’s best bucket list?

By Emily Corpuz

To be completely honest, I had no idea what to write about when I started blogging.

Blogs can be about whatever you want, and you’re supposed breathe life into it and add your own signature twist, so I tried Googling prompts and topics. The one shred of advice I found most helpful was to think of my goals and get those goals across to other people. Continue reading

The Devil and Dustin Andrews

The Devil and Dustin Andrews

Editor’s Note: Meet Dustin, a.k.a EveryGiants. He’s a little shy, but you’ll warm up to him just like we have.

By EveryGiants

When asked to describe myself, my views, and my influences I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of unfamiliarity. Very rarely do I talk about myself, rarer do I find myself writing about the subject of me. But for the sake of a challenge and the sudden emergence of opportunities being thrust upon me let’s give this a go. Continue reading
